Sonic the muse

Det har varit en hektiskt helg för mig med bara dans (French Connection på Dansens Hus) och jag har skitont i ryggen och pallar inte sitta framför skärmen och restrerande del av No Sugar Added ligger och sover i min soffa så nu postar jag en gammal grej för de som händelsevis har lyckats missa vårens Carrie Mundane / Casette Playa goes Sonic kollektion (vi var ju faktiskt första svenska tidning med Kingsize som skrev om märket förra året). Ja ni vet hela new rave härjet, men oh så underbart att ha Sonic som musa...hennes hemsida är fortfarande www.cassetteplaya.com och jag vill att hon ska hooka upp med nån flippad hyphy rapper.

Wellknown in the underground for incredible remixes, productions and own ep's and singles like Glorious since a couple of years back, but these cats have been in the game longer than that. Back in the day before they became a group in 2000, Shafiq Husayn was making beats for Ice-T's Rhyme Syndicate, Taz Arnold spend time assisting Dr. Dre on Chronic 2001, and Om’Mas Kieth was working under Jam Master Jay. The 24 th of April Sa-Ra will release their new album The Hollywood Recordings on Babygrand...sounds like a mix of Prince, Africa Bambatta and Outkast...

Monki

This is some material about new store concept Monki (femele street wear with a japanese touch, good prices) that never made it to the paper (Kingsize) so I thought I post it here instead:

Monki heter ett väl genomtänkt butikskoncept som funnits i Malmö, Karlstad och Göteborg sedan i höstas. I Stockholm har butiken i Skärholmen några månader på nacken och nu har också ett flaggskepp öppnat på Götgatan. Konceptet handlar om fresha kläder till bra priser men här finns dock också lite dyrare märken som Ijin, 2% och Evisu. Kopplingen till japansk street fashion gör Monki intressant för många Kingsizeläsare.

Denna vändbara satinjacka kommer från Monki Skärholmen och kommer i flera färger till våren.
Pärlörhängen 39,90 kr/st H&M, tärningsörhänge 25 kr Punkt Shop
Långskjortan (350 kr) och satinjackan (500 kr) är från Monkis egna märke medan ”hår”-skärpet (250 kr) kommer från FB. Strumpor, 99 kr/3 st H&M, pälspumps 698 kr Bronx/Mixage, liknande pärlhalsband har HM eller Åhléns.

Bakom Kling ligger Carolina Kling, någon kanske minns hennes flug-Reebok Freestyles från Reebok-samarbetet med svenska designers i höstas. Carolina gör svensk streetfashion med sköna tryck och bra passform. Den här långa tee:n kostar 500 kr www.iwantkling.com. Jag väntar ivrigt på vårens Breakfast In Bed-kollektion som har något av Jeremy Scotts galenhet över sig.

ATCQ pattern of the spring?

In the Last number of Kingsize Magazine I wrote about Amsterdams great botique PATTA and their colab with Asics that had a clear A Tribe Called Quest influence. Lemar & Dauley have some tees out this spring (Kan finnas någon kvar av de få Recognize hade inne tillfälligt) and this month it has been talk all over the net about the new Puma Clyde model with this Low End Theory pattern, also X-large vs Gravis comes up with moore items on the same vibe...is this the new Jordan Crackle pattern?

We'll see a lot of people in classic Ray-Bans this summer (See the design on the orange Supreme/Oakley Stunna Shades at the bottom of this page). But for us with serious blurry sight (yeah I one of those that somtimes miss to holla at ppl I know because of mine...I appologize...as Anita)this is like the flyest thing I can imagine this moment, at least on males. Match with a Yankees cap! The red ones is pretty nice too.

Texmex...

Sometimes you just in between styles because of the fact you're in one of Europe’s trendiest countries but at the same time in a subculture that gets the main influence from the States, and the funny thing is that a lot of fashion in the US actually ”tries to look European” when designers over here gets a lot of inspiration from the states and often street culture. What made me think of this today?

Last year Japanese label Swagger (founder; rapper Big O was inspired by 90’ies NYC Hip Hop) had a jeans collection with Mexican inspiration and used the maya patterned fabric around front and back pockets, this spring LRG did their version (available at Shelta, Recognize, Caliroots among others) and why I'm writing this is because then this fall 07 British Umbro will(Kim Jones) release kicks using the same pattern.

Personally I would go for a mixing with the bright plastic florescent materials and colors and this “naturally” bright Mexican/Maya pattern, a perfect contrast between different feels. Use some vibe from early 90’ies shopping at Stockholm Classic “Patan” -store.... Brighter colours now though, focus on cerise! Don’t forget you also can get the real deal at stores like: El Indo, Västerlånggatan 17, Stockholm

Behind the Scenes: Photoshoot April For KIngsize

For the first time we did enter the new Studio at Ploggatan for the April fashion shoot for Kingsize Magazine. Photographer and owner of the Green Flame (see pic) EA was there (Husis helped us the first day-thanks!), Assistant Zelam (We had here nearly undressed in a babydoll dress at the end of day...she forbid me to take any pictures, sorry for that) was there and I was of course there. Also Hannah Gordon came and helped us out with hair and make up on a very short notice, thank you Hannah!

Model young Camilo got his hair shaved off but was as happy as ever, nearly as cherful as the other model Helena who must have been the happiest person ever entering a Kingsize shoot, she might also been the most slobbery one hahaha...when U see the shoot you understand what made here drivel like that, I'm sorry to say it aint something naughty!

My favourite pieces from this shoot was for the girls the grey-biege bomber jacket from the Monki Store (only like 700 Sek!!)and Power Puff necklace from Zanslösa Zmycken. Then the Sami hoodie by Swedish Street Wear label Happy People along with an incredible Kermit-colored cardigan from Fred Perry! (Also check out the new Alife kicks I wrote about earlier)
